Lemongrass Vietnamese/Thai in Sacramento

I rarely post with only negative comments, but sometimes we owe it to our fellow chowhounds to warn them from disaster!

Why is Lemongrass in Sacramento always reviewed as one of THE places for Vietnamese/Thai food in California? Is it because the owner wrote two cookbooks and writes columns for the newspaper?

I went for lunch with a friend after government business...

First hint: the restaurant was packed...with what looked like government office workers.

Second hint: The menu and descriptions were obviously for someone who has never had "exotic" food (Pad Thai: noodle dish, etc, etc)

Third hint: Too too elegant, small amounts of food, high prices....

The green curry was so insipid that I wondered if the green came from food coloring rather than the herbs and basil and chili...

The Pad thai was a new use for bottled sweet and sour sauce...

The summer rolls so delicate and sparse that I thought they just forgot some ingredients.

The salad (I thought green papaya, but it was not)was a mixture of some boiled vegetables...great for a diet!

The special Vietnamese crepe was dry and pretty much without any taste.

There it have been warned!

By the way, the service was wonderful and everyone and the location were truly is just the food, and as a hound THAT is what really matters!
