I tried Le Zinc in Tribeca twice in the past week and enjoyed it both times. It is owned by the same couple who own Chanterelle.
Le Zinc is located down the block from the restaurant City Hall, on Duane Street. They don't take reservations. The food is casual bistro food with asian accents, as that is what the owners like to cook at home, according to the hostess.
My favorite dishes have been the duck wings appetizer, which is a dish I hadn't seen before. It was three duck wings with an asian dipping sauce. Mmmm. Another good starter is the spicy lamb sausage in stuffed grape leaves, which comes with a creamy sauce to dip it in. The skirt steak in a red wine sauce is served cut up and is niceley served with haricot verts (sp.?) and frites. I enjoyed the desserts too, but my fave part of the menu is the appetizers.
I am looking forwad to trying the hot and sour venison and tofu soup as well as the pates. Le Zinc is a bargain - the entrees are in the $15 range. It is not a formal restaurant like Chanterelle, so do not expect fancy or spaciousness. Tables are closely spaced together, but the service is friendly and the food is good.
