Le Croque-off sept (7) Berkeley - La Bedaine

Another entry for my ongoing Croque Monsieur / Madame crawl.

There is a little sign in the sandwich section that reads “Croque Monsieur $6”

I peered at the sandwiches wondering how this was going to work.

They are made to order and come with a lightly dressed mixed greens salad.

This was two pieces of buttered pan de mie nicely toasted to give a little crunch to the outside. The slices of black forest ham were blanketed on each side with thin melted cheese. If there was béchamel it had blended in with the cheese.

Like everything here, it was nicely proportioned … buttery without being greasy or over-rich.

The only drawback is that it needs to be eaten quickly before it cools … maybe sitting on one of the benches outside the shop. It was a nice deal for the money.
