In July, I toured the valle d'Aosta, but didn't have a 2011 Gambero Rosso restaurant guide with me. In a trip report, I described how I came upon Le Bonne Etape in the miniscule hamlet of Surpian, and how happy I was with my lunch at this accidental find.

I only just now purchased a 2011 Gambero Rosso and was delighted to find in it a glowing recommendation for Le Bonne Etape inside it, using words like "impeccable" and pointing its meter reading for price-quality ratio almost off the charts, favorably.
I wanted to add the Gambero Rosso rating to the Chowhound archives in case anybody is searching the board for valle d'Aosta recommendations. Although Le Bonne Etape is tucked into a tiny corner of a tiny town, it is only a five minute drive from the main autostrade exit for Fenis. (Head to the town of St. Marcel and follow the signs.)
