Latino Market in Thousand Oaks

I went to the Latino Market on T.O. Blvd. today at lunchtime.

I must have passed this place a hundred times and never really noticed it. The entrance is on the side, not on T.O. Blvd.

Once you walk in you could swear you’re in Mexico. I don’t even know if they speak English; fortunately I speak Spanish so never even tried English.

I ordered 1 each: Asada, Pastor and Carnitas taco. They have two sizes, the mini tortillas and the regular 4” taco size tortillas for hard tacos.

First, let me say, I’m not a snob, but I do like eating my meal in pleasant surroundings. Suffice it to say I will never be eating there, just not my type of place. Fortunately I only live about 2 miles or so away so I ordered to go and took them home. This also allowed me to put on my own hot sauce.

I thought they were certainly good tacos, definitely authentic and there is certainly nothing like them in this area (unless you go to Oxnard). I do wish they were hotter (temperature wise) and fresher. I don’t know if it’s their storage but the carnitas were the only with moist meat. The pastor and carnitas were a little on the dry side. I was there well before noon so everything should have been fresh. They all had nice flavor though.,

I definitely will go back when I need a ‘taco fix’ and give them another chance. Maybe I’ll order the large and get a better dose of the meat.
