Tonight after 11pm I stopped at Silver in San Francisco Chinatown for a bowl of jook after a wine tasting. I hadnt been here since it reopened a couple years ago. The pork shreds and thousand-year old egg jook was $3.50 for a big bowl and was garnished with green onions and a dollop of peanut oil. It needed a little salt to perk it up, but was otherwise fine as is with fine pulled shreds of pork and chunks of preserved egg in a thick style of jook with plump grains. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes.
Parking directly outside the restaurant on the street was no problem. As I headed up Washington St., I noticed that Sam Wo, King Tin and Golden Dragon still had open signs lit. In addition to the places on Broadway, this is a good area to find a late night snack.
