I finally visited this highly-tauted establishment last Friday night. I was underwhelmed.
Based on prior recs from this board, we ordered ribs with cumin -- they didn't really resemble ribs, but instead were small deep fried chunks of bone and fat. We ordered some pretty standard things as well, like wonton soup and spring rolls, which were mediocre at best. The chili platter -- the dish I was most excited to try -- was very interesting, but not as good as it looked. I don't think this was an off-night, I just wonder if I ordered the wrong things.
The menu is huge, and I really do need a new place in Chinatown (my personal favorite Hong Mihn had a fire several years ago and never re-opened); so, I want to like it. I am not a big hot-pot fan (I don't like to do my own cooking when I go out to dinner), but there must be other things there that draw the crowds.
Also, Joy Yee Noodle Shop looked like a happening place (at least for Chinatown). Looks aren't everything, but anyone have thoughts on this place?
