thanks for l'angolo

thanks so much to les, sylvia, and everyone else who recomended l'angolo

we had "our" valentines last night (to avoid the crowds/bad service/high prices - i'm cooking tonite :)) hubby wanted to surprise me with a new restaurant and i had really wanted to try l'angolo (and must have talked about it alot) - cause that was his "surprise".

first we went for drinks to le castagne (best happy hour in the city, they have a wine list that ranges from 6-9 dollars a glass, they have maybe a dozen reds and a 1/2 dozen whites - and they are all 1/2 price) had a couple glasses of wine there and some complimentary snacks and then caught a cab to south philly (was tempted to stay for dinner, but hubby had a "surprise restaurant" - but castagne has very good food, and not terribly priced, particularly the pastas)

got to l'angolo, plowed through the excellent bread/olives/oil, hubby couldn't decide between the veal ravioli in truffle creme sauce (special 15 bucks app portion was 5 for 9.50...sooooo worth it...and the waitress gave the prices of every special without asking) or the veal langolo, so our waitress suggested an appetizer portion of the veal ravioi (in a truffle creme sauce that i could bathe in). It was by far the most wonderful thing i have ever tasted. If i wouldn't have felt like a total pig, i'd have had it for dinner too :)

he got the veal, and i got pasta with mussels, calmari, and shrimp. Both were absolutely fantastic. We then split a piece of marscopone cheese cake drizzeled with chocolate (yummmy yummmy yummy, only wish we had room to try the tiramisu too - as it was i had to bring 1/2 my dinner home). Had the complimentary lemonchello, and practically rolled home. It was wonderful, i'm still stuffed, we had fantastic food, fantastic service, and a wonderful romatic evening. If you are going soon and the veal ravioli is a special, definately try it! The total bill was about 47 bucks plus tip, which ain't bad either...

thanks again for the great tip!
