We finally made it to Laboratorio the other night -courtesy eldest son, for our 41st anniversary. It was wonderful! 12 courses - I loved all but one. This was the most creative Italian food I've ever eaten. The small dishes gave one maybe 4 bites - just right for the amazing flavors, but the totality was that you ended up not too stuffed, believe it or not. Standouts were the tuna over chicory and cannellini beans, duck liver custard with red onion marmalade, tortelloni of tomato, mozarella and a cream sauce and risotto with truffles and sweetbread. But then also the wonderful monkfish and the duck breast. There was also an amazing eggplant soup with lobster. I wasn't crazy about the cavatelli with tomatoes, clams and mussels. The last 3 were desserts -a watermelon sorbet, baba and bomboloni (donuts). It was really fantastic. Wonderful room, very attentive and unpretentious service, charming host-Roberto. I certainly hope this bankruptcy business works out.
So now I know what Joe's been raving about - and can't wait to go back.
