Unless you don't read the Times, you know that today was S. Irene & Co.'s annual guide to the best restaurants in LA, Orange County and a few dribs and drabs. In the course of the issue, the burger platter at Thai American Express Cafe gets outed with a mention of this board (once again referring to the 'hounds as "foodies"), S. Irene picks 7 super faves (Angelini Osteria being her #1 with a bullet) and about 38 others, mostly high end, mostly area codes 310 & 323 (guess that's where the $ is). Fortunately, about 40 or so other low end spots get the nod from SIV & staff. There's no question that SIV does a thorough job of covering pricey places, particularly new ones. Strangely, I don't recall any Oaxacan's, few Thai, and not much sushi. Maybe that's last year's news. Some of the mentions merit checking out. There are also video tours of about five or six places online.
