Based on recs on this board, we departed from our usual Christmas tamale source, La Mascota.
Yesterday we tried the two different masa textures with a combination of chicken & pork in each from LFdY, and have over a half dozen remaining tamales which no one in my family likes, either style. The one which had been described as having a silky texture, my husband called slimy--maybe that's a bit harsh. We respect those of you who love La Flor de Yucatan, but we don't get it. Wish we could give you the rest of them.
Well, we learned once again if it ain't broke, don't fix it...and returned to La Mascota today for pork/chile and chicken/chile tamales, still winners in our home. They're less expensive, too.
