La Española's jamon bocadillo is terrific. Some criticize it for being "puny", but I guess I prefer intense flavors delivered in a small package. Crispy baguette drizzled with olive oil, layers of domestic serrano ham, dry chorizo, manchego, and velvety piquillo peppers. I bought on on my way out of town in April 2012 intending to just have a bite or two while it was fresh (to not spoil my appetite for lunch in Santa Barbara), and saving the rest for later. But after the first bite, I stayed put and polished it off in one sitting. That's the true test.
