went to kurio last night at the suggestion of chowhounders when i asked abut upper east side places.
even though the meal was only "v. good" and not stupendous i feel a maternal warmth and protectiveness for this small place.
service was outstanding (granted we were literally the only ones there--yankee game???), and three standouts: a lamb ragout that was both sweet and spicy with excellent gnocchi underneath, a molten chocolate cake, and a strawberry shortcake that was recommended by the poster here, and indeed it was tremendous. a giant biscuit like cake with fresh strawberries and a light strawberry cream on top. also: word was from my family that the martinis were awesome.
not a destination restaurant (and not cheap) but if you live in the nieghborhood, def. bring these lovely folks your business.
