House + Co is perhaps better known for its baked goods, especially the moist layer cakes which come either studded with plums or prunes.
I tried their Nyonya dishes this time:
- the Nyonya kueh pie tee (one order contained 3 pieces) had ultra-crispy pastry shells, but the turnip filling was disappointingly cold - YUK!! The chilli-garlic dip was delicious though, but that didn't compensate for the cold filling;
- the Nyonya curry laksa was substantial - I requested for a mix of Hokkien noodles & bee hoon rice noodles: which were served with a spicy, aromatic coconutty curry, and topped with generous slices of poached chicken breast meat, a crunchy prawn, tofu puffs, cooked string beans & half a hard-boiled egg. No sprig of mint or any aromatic leaves to liven up the Nyonya curry laksa though.
Beautiful albeit casual restaurant, although one of the senior wait-staff (Chinese chap) was inexplicably snooty.
