Krua Thai First Visit Disappointment

Dogbite Williams | Feb 18, 2008 06:20 PM

I ordered the pahd kee mao since it has been widely praised on Chowhound and it's a personal favorite. I ordered it without MSG. The waitress directly asked me if I wanted it spicy and I said, "Yes."

The dish I received contained no MSG and no chilis. It was very mild. The garlic was also barely discernible. At the end of my meal I still had more than 80% of my original glass of water left. I complained to the cashier and she and another woman explained that they cook "medium spicy" because some people complain that it's TOO spicy.

That may be, but I believe when someone ASKS for spicy Thai food, it should contain some chilis.

I told them that I'd be back. There was a lot of chicken in the dish and the overall portion was well worth the $5.75. I liked the ambiance, and maybe they'll get the spice right next time or I might try another dish.
