My boyfriend surprised me with a dinner at Kokkari for my birthday. I had never heard of it before and was very pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was very cool and the service was helpful and friendly, but not obtrusive.
I started with the flatbread with carmelized onions, kalamata olives, and cheese and it was amazingly simple and flavorful. He had the lamb riblets with oregano and olive oil which were tender with a robust, but not overpowering and gamey, flavor.
For my main course, I had the seafood risotto (sans rabbit) and it was extremely tasty with a slighty spicy aftertaste. He had the halibut, which was crisp on the ouside and tender on the inside. It was served with a saffron broth with clams, mussels, and spinach. He is a seafood fanatic and couldn't say enough about the generous serving and cleaned his plate.
We also each had a glass of cava, which was quite reasonable and very good.
For dessert, I had the baklava with ice cream (SO good!) and he had the rice pudding with strawberry compote, which he demolished despite claiming being full.
All in all, I think it was a wonderful meal, and given the price, we'll definitely go back. I was happy to see that despite it's large size, the restaurant was seated to capacity.
