Knife Sharpening With a Strop

obillo | Feb 22, 202004:28 AM     2

Years ago I tried a hack: sharpen a razor by stroking in backwards on a piece of cloth. It worked. Last year I saw one of those Hollywood Gunga Din movies of the 1930s; in it, there's a shaving scene, of all things--and the shaver (Gary Cooper?) stropped his razor on the palm of his hand! I began gabbing about strops so much that I finally got one for my birthday. It's a Misaku RS-2 w/two strop (brown smooth, rawhide, black semi-smooth and gray raw--and no instructions. Stiff! All the strops in barber shops of my youth were slack and flexible. How to prepare this thing for use? And how to use it for best results?
