Ken Hall BBQ and football

John Scar | Aug 14, 2003 11:51 AM

Had the que recently at Ken's place and it was good but not worth a trip to Fredericksburg just to get it. I liked the sausage and the briskett was decent.
While there I talked to a regular customer about Mr Hall and his legacy in HS football and what happened at A&M. He said he had an article that he would send me that was very interesting. In the article there was a letter from Paul Bear Bryant to Mr. Ken hall that said:
"A nice man named Cannon sent me a picture and article about you from the San Francisco Examiner.
I really appreciated this because for many years I've been very critical of myself for the way I handled you at Texas A&M, otherwise, you would have been an all american football player. I told John Crowe and many of your teammates that I had one brain and little experience. You would have played on a national championship team and you would have been one of the main reasons they were National Champions. At the time I did what I thought was the best and after all these years and having experience with different individuals I know that isn't true.
The purpose of this letter is to let you know that I handled you poorly and for you to know that I'm so tremendously proud of you and the success you have obviously enjoyed.
hope everything goes very well for you and your two son's mentioned in the article and, of course, your pretty little bride."
Sincerely,
Paul Bryant
