Yesterday my husband and I headed downtown with the children of some friends of ours for a long-promised Christmas lunch at Blue Ribbon Sushi. Remembering how busy Kee's gets in the afternoon, we stopped in just before noon (and before BR Sushi opens) to get the after lunch chocolates. Kee was there by herself and was very gracious - letting the children have the two remaining jasmine chocolates as a "taste" after I asked what they were, and also giving us the three remaining key lime chocolates as another "taste" after we had selected our chocolates (blood orange, champagne, the one remaining creme brulee, to name a few, plus I was impressed that the 9 year old chose Thai chili and Earl Gray as two of his four choices - though he asked later what "Thai chili" was - he enjoyed it!). They were all lovely as usual. We had our usual favorites at Blue Ribbon, including delicious shrimp dumplings (in lieu of the tempura rock shrimp, which they were out of), fried oyster roll, and spicy blue crab roll. They brought us, on the house, a soft shell crab tempura, an $18.95 value. So, I don't know if it was the rainy day and general quiet at both places, but we were treated graciously and generously by both establishments. Kudos to both.
