Kay & Dave's Cantina - NOT so good

Well, we thought we'd try something local and ventured out to Kay & Dave's Cantina on Pico near Prosser in Rancho Park.

Let's just say - this place is not so good. . . even a little bit.

The "salsa" was no more than stewed diced tomatoes with onion. NOT spicy in the least and not flavored with anything other than. . . well, stewed tomatoes.

They highlight the fact that they use canola oil (I think - I know they brag about not using lard). Well, I'm not sure they should be bragging. The non-salted chips were tasteless. Additionally, they were not "browned" at all - and so they had no real flavor. I think they tasted like the chips from baja fresh. I haven't eaten there in a very long time - but it's something like that.

I ordered the carne asada taco (hard shell) and cheese enchilada with pinto beans. My SO ordered the steak/chicken fajitas.

Taco came - soft corn tortilla. That's fine. But the meat was burnt, had fat, and had no flavor. Very sad. The enchilada was not bad. The rice was not memorable. The beans were dry and flaky which was sad b/c that is usually my favorite part.

Fajita came. It was green!!! Well, not green - but there were so many bell peppers and so little meat - that it looked like a vegetarian dish. The meat was ok - but it was mainly vegetables.

Oh, and we ordered a margarita to start. I took a sip and was greeted with a mouth full of lime flesh! Now, I like a squeeze of lime in a margarita, but there shouldn't be so much fruit flesh on the bottom of a drink that it's like a smoothie or something. It really grossed me out.

The space was nice, but a little on the chilly side. Also, it was much worse thanks to the 3-6 or so children running around the entire restaurant slamming open the back door and letting a cold wind in and then running around the dining area. I assume they were the staff's/owner's children - otherwise I cannot imagine an establishment allowing this kind of behavior.

I'm really pretty sad that I didn't like it b/c it would be nice if there was a small business owned tasty mexican restaurant nearby.

But - I'll avoid this place like the plague and head a little further down the street to Talpa, Don Antonios, Lares or Gilberts because Kay & Dave's Is Awful!
