Kasadela - pretty decent

Lau | Jun 15, 2008 11:09 AM

I ate at Kasadela last night with a couple friends, its a cool little izakaya in alphabet city on 11th bet ave B &C (closer to C). Definitely a cool place to relax drink some sake and beer and eat some decent izakaya food. The service was surprisingly attentive although maybe even too attentive b/c i felt like they were trying to re-fill my cup, clear off my plate and give me a new napkin every 2 seconds. I'd come back again.

Here's what I got:
- Goma Tofu w/ Wasabi: an alright version, since i love this dish it still tasted good, but its not up to par with say Donguri (who has an unbelievable version)...its tofu made out of sesame seed not soy beans, so its much creamier, more flavorful and tastes great with wasabi and a little soy sauce
- Tebasaki: these are supposed to be the specialty here, they are chicken wings and drumsticks fried and served in a sticky sweet soy sauce...think of buffalo wings japanese style. I liked them, definitely thought they were tasty, but I like somewhere like bon chon chicken better and I wasn't blown away by them, but they are definitely tasty
- Rock Shrimp Tempura w/ Creamy Spicy Sauce: these were also very tasty. Not that different from the stuff you get at Morimoto's or Nobu, but the sauce is on the side...not too greasy or breaded, so id get it again
- Ochazuke w/ Ume: ochazue is literally just rice with green tea poured over it, but they usually add condiments (seaweed, these crunchy things, wasabi etc), it had all this plus i got ume (pickled plum)...its kind of hard to mess up, so this was fine

Overall, it was tasty, although not mind blowing...id come back b/c the food is tasty and its a fun place to hang out and drink with friends.
