I went to Kansas City last week and ate at some places I have seen recommended on this board. The first place I went was LC's for barbeque. I agree with those that say this is the best in BBQ in Kansas City. It is the best I have been to. I ordered the mixed plate with sliced pork and turkey. What I did not realize is that ribs came with the plate also. I payed much more money than I would have liked since I could only finish about half of the meat and was not in a position to take it with me. I figured there would be two ribs. There were four or five of some of the tastiest ribs and sauce I have ever had. I have been to a lot of the "name" barbeques in KC but LC's is the best I have been to.
That night I took my nephew, who is a fresman in college, in Kansas City to Garrozo's in the Columbus Park neighborhood. I love this place. I have been there before and I love the 3 way pasta. I have never been able to finish it.
The next day I had lunch at Le Fou Frog in the River Market area. The French Onion Soup, Duck Confit Salad and Trout Almondine were very enjoyable. I thought the salad would only have cut up chuncks of duck in it but it it had a large piece of duck on the bone. It could have been a meal in itself and probably is for most people.
That night day we went to Fiorella Jack Stack Barbeque in the downtown area. The lamb ribs were tasty but kind of small. I like this place for the atmosphere as much as the barbeque. The barbeque is ok, but not my favorite. The side dishes including the corn pudding are good.
On Saturday we went to Minski's Pizza in the River Market to eat Pizza and watch the O.U. Sooners play Kansas on t.v. I go to the River Market every time I go to K.C. I usually get a sandwich at Carrolo's Meat Market, eat breakfast at Cascone's or get pizza at Minski's. Its funny it was actually kind of hard for me to find a sports grill that was showing the Kansas-Oklahoma game on a bigscreen in Kansas City. The Iowa game was actually easier to find. Anyway, I like Minski's pizza.
The last place we went was Sol Azteca on Southwest Blvd. based on recommendations from this board. The food was good and inexpensive. The tamales were a highlight. Overall, it was a good trip and I ate at some places I have never been before based on recommendations from this board.
