Stunning Sushi Sasabune Story | Mar 11, 200306:06 PM

I've always had mixed feelings about this place: loved the Sushi, however the service and ambiance rank near, probably at, the bottom of the entire restaurant ladder. Especially when you factor in price, usually over $50 a head...as they rush you out in 20 minutes.

However, sometimes I really crave those crab rolls so today I went over for lunch around noonish.

Walked in, and the unpleasant youngish host asked me if I wanted bar or table. As I prefer to order a la carte, I asked for a table, pointing to the main room. She rudely told me no, and escorted us to a choice of tables back by the bathroom. The restaurant was about 1/3 full at the time. I then asked for a menu. She responds by saying it is prix fixe only. I thought that was only at the bar, I reply. No, when it is crowded, only serve chef's special. When was this new policy made? I used to get a menu?

I just decided now, when you walked in...

I turn with my companion, and walk out, shaking my head.

I've always felt dirty when I pay the bill - like I've just been used and fleeced. Guess that won't be a problem in the future.

We ended up having a tasty lunch at Manpopo down the street. Saved $80 too.
