Jimmy's Downtown (rpt)

Went to Jimmy's Downtown (57th+1st) for bday dinne with my boyfriend. While the space itself is attractive and the clientele (and waitstaff) professional, I found the food itself underwhelming (although not altogether unreasonably priced -- drinks/apps/dinner/dessert came to $100 total, for 2). We had the diver scallop app; I found it a little greasy. I had the sturgeon as my main course and found the fish to be largely flavorless and the guacamole to actually make for a strange combination since it didn't exactly meld well with the fish's oils. My boyfriend had the lamb shank, though, and thought they were tasty although not really spectacular. For dessert, we split the pumpkin bread pudding and the apple cinnamon empanadas. The bread pudding had absolutely no pumpkin taste whatsoever, but was still pretty good (although misadvertised). The empanadas were exactly what you'd expect -- fried shell and warm apple-y filling and were probably the best part of the meal aside from our outrageously attentive server.
