I wholeheartely agree that Bruce's is a place to avoid. Not only is it expensive, the service is uncaring which apparently flows down from the owner who, in view of a long line of customers at the counter, does and says nothing to alleviate the problem.
Regarding Poultry Mart, it is hardly little-known to the residents of Great Neck, myself included. The fried chicken is a definite avoid as it is utterly dried out inside and the overall flavor is one of salt. I've had the rotisserie chicken many times and it is much better. All told however, I don't think it is anything worth traveling for.
The state of Chowhounding in Great Neck is truly abysmal. In nearby Port Washington, you might want to check out Port Churasquito (Main Street). In nearby Little Neck, there is Nelson's Chicken which looks interesting (although I have not tried it) along with a raft of Korean, Chinese and Italian restaurants that might be worth exploring. There is nothing worth exploring in Great Neck.
