jerry's wood fired dog's - a 2nd visit

kj | May 19, 200601:04 AM

a few weeks ago i gave a brief report on jerry's in santa ana - i had an opportunity to visit again today with a friend. last time, had the signature dog - after some input from several of you, i decided i had to try one of the sausage selections - i went with uncle franks italian sausage, my friend had the spiral dog, both of us went with a combo with the chips.

this time i had them sprinkle the garlic salt on the chips - the chips were a little cold so the salt did not adhere to the chips as it should - next time ( and there will be a next time - i will ask them to put the salt on them as soon as they are out of the fryer still they tasted good.

after rolling my eyes a few times noticing that my friend had regular mustard and chopped onion's on his dog ( that's it ?? different strokes.....)

i went with the cleveland mustard, chipotle mayo, grilled onions and peppers....i was in heaven - it was perfect - i liked that the sausage did not have a casing - had a great fennel taste to it - i forgot to get the roll toasted but i think it worked out - the roll was fresh - absorbed the flavors yet did not get soggy...excellent.

we were there at 11:45 and the inside was full so we sat out on one of the patio tables - it was a little chilly out ( still a little overcast ) - we sat there for over an hour - it weas interesting to see the crowd - initially it was the working people - a mixture of white collar and blue collar....there was a steady stream of people - it then started to shift to an older crowd and the housewife with kids crowd - sadly, some people turned away because it was too busy

next time, i think i need to try a burger - they were smelling good.

i wish they had a place like this in san gabriel valley - i think i would be there once a week !!
