JC & Family (formerly El Guaton)

I've been reluctant to go into JC ever since it changed hands after El Guaton, but I finally gave it a shot. Indicated on the menu is that JC has "new owners, same staff, new dishes, better service." Ever since they've opened, it has seemed a little less inviting. However, after talking with the new folks, they're plenty pleasant and I have to say that the chacarero sandwich I got tonight hasn't changed much, except the $.50 price increase. What's new are the steam table type entrees they offer. I also got a taste of one of the chicken stews they have. While these are nothing spectacular, it's pretty decent and a really good deal. For $5-6, you get a lot of food, with a bunch of rice, good smoky/garlicky beans, a vile iceberg salad, and a good amount of stewed meat. Very filling and quick.
