Jamaica or Bahamas more chowhoundy?

Ok. Here's a question I probably already know the answer to.

Rachel and I got some travel vouchers and roundtrip tickets to our choice of either a week stay at a resort at Ochos Rios in Jamaica, or Nassau in the Bahamas. Both resorts are rated 4 stars, have equivalent amenities, day trips to local sights, etc., and we know that we will want to eat out for dinner basically every night locally and probably eat lunch out as well when we are galavanting around.

So for chowhoundy purposes, which is better? Ochos Rios in Jamaica or Nassau in the Bahamas?

Also (and I fully expect to get flamed on this one by the usual bunch who I know will totally misinterpret this), which is considered to be safer for galavanting around town unescorted? I have heard that parts of Jamaica can be dangerous to tourists, but I've been all over the world (and in other parts of the caribbean as well) and as a New Yorker, I have plenty of street smarts and common sense, so I'm not -that- concerned about it. I am jonesing for some serious jerk though.

Any opinions on either of these two considerations?
