jam safety

I recently found a couple of recipies featuring chocolate as an ingredient in the jam. the first added the chocolate to the fruit and boiled it for 5 min. the second dropped chocolate chips into the jars before sealing and processing. Are either of these methods safe? I would love to try chocolate in my jam...but don't want to poison anyone...
