Stopped by Jake's for a couple of sandwiches to go. The pulled pork was pretty good, only slightly pre-sauced when compared with other Boston 'que restaurants' versions. I put some of the mild sauce on that one, delicious (although I only had a few bites). Other sandwich was all mine - excellent briskett - somewhat tender, the right amount of fat still on the meat, I used the hot sauce on that one and it was a good choice. Perfect amount of spice, slightly tingly, but not excessive. Sides were (baked) mac & cheese, and collards, both admirably done. I ate a side order of fried okra on the way home with the sandwiches. I think I finished them within two blocks. I love fried okra. Topped the meal off with a slice of red velvet - also extremely well done. I prefer red velvet w/o a ton of icing - this was it. Very moist and flavorful. Total was around $17.
When the nice woman behind the counter was slicing the meat for my sandwich, I asked her if I could just keep the whole thing. She smiled and sliced me off a thick piece and just handed it to me to test. The staff is great there.
