ISO restaurants in several midwestern cities

I am a faithful chowhead from new york who this summer is driving across the country as part of a media tour for Steven Raichlen's latest barbecue book, BBQ USA. I'll be with Steven part of the time and alone for part of the time. Anyway, while I'm sure he will have plenty of great places that he will recommend, I am looking for some help from you all out in chowland. Normally I would scan the board here but i am under a bit of a time crunch. I am on an expense account but not an extravagant one so moderate to moderately expensive places are probably what i'm looking for. Places that are quintessential to your towns would be preferrable; also, places where eating alone is ok/enjoyable. I would say no barbecue since I think I will be having plenty of that during his various presentations. I know these are very broad parameters -- whatever help you can give would be appreciated.

OK, here are the cities where we will be. Events are still being finalized -- when they are I will post them on this site as well!

-- Cincinatti
-- Dayton
-- Columbus
-- Ann Arbor
-- Detroit
-- Minneapolis
-- Chicago
-- St. Louis
-- Kansas City (i guess bbq would be ok for KC)
-- Denver
-- Austin
-- San Antonio
-- Houston
-- Dallas

Thank you all so much for your help!!!!
