The place that used to be Mango House pre-Katrina (and before that Ninja) has opened now as Iris. Had an amazing meal there on Friday. Really nice renovation inside, great mellow green walls, real intimate cottage feel to the place. Prices were normal fine-dining, $6 - $8 apps, $18-$20 entrees.
We had mussels in a very good coconut milk broth and veal cheek ravioli with shaved parm over the top. Excellent. I had duck breast with brussel sprouts in a rich bacon sauce, very flavorful meat, but ended up stealing about half of my date's drum, nice and crispy on the outside, very tender inside, with cucumbers and mint on top. Left half of the chocolate tart on the table because it was so dense and rich, but did swiftly finish off a delicious "sipping rum" with our coffees. The place is tucked down a sidestreet, Jeannette, and was booming. The house was completely fulll while we were there. Service was great, everyone working there seemed very happy and excited to be open, great attitude. Hope they continue to do well, I'll be back next week probably.
