Ippollitos - hidden treasures

I've been sorta selfish when it comes to Ippollitos. Its one of those little treasures that you don't want the world to find out about but...

They are not a restaurant, carry out only. I go frequently for fresh fish and crabmeat. During the summer they have both live and cooked hardshells. You can order your crabs in the morning and they will steam them for you. You can pick them up hot or chilled. The crabs run about $25 a dozen for the really big ones, less for smaller. They only sell males!

Yesterday I stopped by to get some crabmeat. (The fresh crabmeat from Louisiana not that pasturized stuff they sell at the reading terminal) I was checking out and noticed some bread pudding. It was a large portion packaged with separate sauce for $4. It is made on premises by one of the owners.

I inquired whether it was made with heavy cream and was told that it was made with milk. To make a long story short (too late) it was one of the best bread puddings I have ever eaten. 1/4 of the package was plenty for me.

They are located at 13th and Dickenson.
