I'm driving across the country and have settled on this area of the country as the place to focus most of my time, sightseeing, and researched eating.
I prefer to stay off the interstates, and I don't care if a place is 150 miles out of the way, because the journey is the destination, especially when the destination actually is fantastic southern food.
A lot of great sources like Roadfood have, for example, the way between New Orleans and Houston really well covered, and I can find more than enough on Memphis and Nashville on this board. But there must be fantastic stuff on the 2-lane highways too, and I imagine more interesting things to see, as far as little towns and communites go.
Northern Alabama, Northern Mississippi, Southern Arkansas maybe, Northern Louisiana, that part of Texas ... are there any places to eat in this area that are worth planning my route around?
