Indian Grocery in Nova

Okay, my refrigerator is full so now I can share this tip. A new Indian/Pakistani/etc grocery opened up in the Van Dorn plaza with the Safeway (514A South Van Dorn St., West Alexandria), former home to an endless parade of unsuccessful restaurants.

I grabbed a lot of their $3-4 entrees including Chicken Tikki Marsala, Chicken Curry, Chick Peas, Spinach, and various prepared rice dishes so I can soak up the juice from the others. All of the ones I've tasted so far have been excellent.

On my first trip, I had a couple of the prepared Somosas available at the checkout counter. They were just okay. On the second trip they looked far less fresh so I passed on them. They have about 3 different cooked items. We'll see if they survive the inevitable health inspections that always mess up such attempts at most new restaurants.

Anyway, if you live in the neighborhood, it is definitely worth a trip. Lots of good stuff, especially if you like to cook such dishes instead of just grabbing the prepared stuff.

$40 at TemptAsia lasts me about 3 days of blissful chowing. The same money here will probably get me through 5-6 days of eating. Plus beer, of course.
