We ate at Peacock Indian Restaurant on Williams in Kenner on Saturday night. We were very happy -- the food was more reasonably priced than at some other local Indian restaurants, there is a good selection of naans, and we liked everything we tasted -- palak paneer, vindaloo with lamb, and a very large plate of biryani with ginger chicken. Plus onion naan and regular naan. When we asked for the vindaloo to be prepared with more spice, it actually happened. Apparently they have been open only about six months and there were only a few customers. Support this place if you like Indian food! As we left the waiter gave us several 15% off coupons for use on future visits.
The experience was especially good after a dreadful meal the previous night. My husband has been chatting for months with the chef/owner of La Rouge in the Quarter. Yes, we know the Times-Picayune reviewer hated the place, but the chef kept telling my husband the reviewer came on a bad night, he uses top quality ingredients, etc. etc. Unfortunately the reviewer was right. Our dinners were insipid, underflavored and overpriced. Service was sloppy. And then there was the "entertainer," a one-man jazz combo who plays the flute, a sax that sounds as if it has a respiratory illness, the keyboard, and unfortunately sings in a style that combines Boris Karloff and Elvis. Very strange.
