incredible chorizo

I dunno.. maybe everyone is eating this and I just didn't know about it... but I think this is a rare find.

Searching for tapas dishes, my wife and I were directed to Despana Brand Foods, 86-17 Northern Blvd, 2 blocks E of Pio Pio. This small store imports spanish foods and cookware, and makes their own products, among them cooking chorizo.

This is the best chorizo I've ever had anywhere, including in Spain. Spicy, toothsome, deeply smoky, it imparts a haunting flavor to whatever recipe it goes in. It's the chorizo equivalent of a great, single-malt scotch, and it blows every other chorizo experience I've had out of the water.

It sells for $4.00 a pound, and I'd buy it for twice that. IMHO, this is a real, if small, gem in the Queens food scene.
