Not so impressed with Petey's Burger in Astoria

Finally made it to Petey's. People have been comparing it to In-n-Out Burger, but I don't think the comparison stands up. Even if you assume the burgers are similar, In-n-Out is cheaper, often provides outdoor seating, and more exciting things can be done with the menu. I have idyllic memories of eating the 5x5 animal style, oustide in Pasadena in perfect 75 degree whether. That experience cannot be replicated in Queens, unfortunately. So take away those elements of In-n-Out, and you're left with a not-so-cheap burger that falls kind of flat, which is what you get at Petey's. The meat just doesn't taste like anything. I do appreciate the oozey combination of the perfectly melted cheese and sauce, but when you get right down to it, the meat itself is not special. I'd take Shake Shack or Five Guys any day over it. (Petey's fries are pretty ok though).
If I'm going to spend $10 for a burger and fries in Queens, and I have time to sit down and eat, there is no reason not to go to Donovan's Pub or De Mole (their buffalo burger is fantastic). Yes, yes, I know, different kind of burger at the latter two places- but for the same money, they're far superior.
