Il San Duck

Having been alerted here that Il San Duck (3700 W Olympic, (323) 735-9100) is closing, I went there for lunch. It is an experience. I got their top-of-the-line clay pot duck stuffed with rice, nuts, fruit, etc. It was enough food for four people, but I ate it all anyway. It includes some panchan, a tasty salad, a duck soup that produces a good peppery burn in the throat, and a whole duck that they cut open rather dramatically with scissors. The duck meat is really tender, and the best part is the fruit that's part of the stuffing.

I talked to the owner, who is a very nice man. He wondered how I knew that the restaurant is closing. I told him about chowhound.com, and he asked me to write down the URL. He said that business is slow despite their recommendations in the LA Times and LA Weekly, and that they would probably close down around July 10th. Business was indeed slow when I was there. It just seems a shame not to have a restaurant that serves nothing but barbequed duck.
