Had dinner Satruday at Il Grano again. I ordered the Tasting Menu and made special mention that I wanted all courses (except dessert) to have seafood. First course was 6 pieces of Sashimi and 2 Tartare. All were so fresh it hurt...so good. Second course was Grilled Calamari over Arugula. It was so tender with a wonderfully intense taste of the char of the grill. The best version of this dish anywhere. Next came a mix of Squid Ink and regular Gnocci with what they said was Rock Shrimp but really were Salad Shrimp. Gnocci and Shrimp were properly cooked and served in a very fresh Tomato Sauce. Next course was a piece of some sort of Cod on a bed of pureed Celery Root and ringed in a Basil infused oil. The fish was so fresh and cooked with such skill that it seemed that the only thing holding it together was the crust that formed from searing the fish. It quite literally melted in my mouth. I have never had a piece of fish quite this spectacular. A perfect example too of a dish being better than the sum of its parts. Dessert was requested to be something Chocolate. I am not sure what it was but it was Chocolate and it was not very good. The best dessert here by far is the Panna Cotta. My wife doesn't eat it so I feel selfish getting it. Desserts are the weakest link here. We had a 1/2 bottle of an Italian wine with a name that I couldn't pronounce. Wines here are typically $10.00 a glass so I got adventurous with a $20.00 experiment. It was inky dark and deeply flavored. An excellent wine. It did not go at all with my food but I am a really big fan on really Big Reds. They were not too busy and considering the prices and quality of food, it is hard to understand. Service was just excellent and very helpful and friendly too. I guess my 25% tips on my previous visits my have something to do with it also. I just love this place...happy...happy..
