I read about this restaurant in a Chowhound post some time ago and decided to try it with a friend who lives in Bensonhurst, which is miles from Park Slope and even further from Billyburg!!! Il Colosseo is on 18th Ave near 79th St. While the decor was nothing to speak of--noisy but light and clean, the food was very, very good. I was dying for red sauce and had veal parmigiana, which was the equal of the best I'd ever had and reminded me of the best red-sauce meals of my adolesence. I had the grilled octopus appetizer and it was a large portion which just about justified the $9 tag. My friend tried the pizza but it wasn't that good.
Even though it is named after Rome's Coliseum, the owner is from Palermo and told me he eats nothing but fish. There was some fresh fish on display so I'd give that a whirl. Happy eats!
