ICE CREAM -- Home Cooking Dish of the Month, July 2019

Welcome to our Reporting Thread for our July 2019 Dish of the Month (“DOTM”). For those new to our DOTM series, the purpose of this thread is to encourage hounds to prepare the selected dish throughout the month of July 2019 and use this thread to report results, share pictures and recipes, and exchange tips and ideas.

Thanks to all the hounds who participated during the nomination and voting phases for our July 2019. It was a wild ride, with a tie among seven different dishes during the Nominations round, but a runaway victory by Ice Cream in the voting round. We hope that everyone who participated in the Nominations and Voting threads -- including those who supported dish(es) other than ice cream -- will join with us in making Ice Cream during July. We also encourage you to return for future Nominations and Voting Threads, when you may re-nominate the dishes that you supported and suggest new dishes.

Like me, many of you may not ever have made ice cream, do not own an ice cream machine, and may not want to purchase one. Don’t despair. There are “no-churn” recipes that can be made without a machine. We are huge fans of coffee ice cream in our house, so I am eying this recipe by Nigella, https://food52.com/recipes/30285-nige....

On the other end of the spectrum are the ice cream enthusiasts who have already been active on the separate thread for 2019 Ice Creams, Popsicles & Other Frozen Desserts, who also voted for Ice Cream as our DOTM. We hope that you will embrace the spirit of DOTM by pushing your individual envelopes with recipes and flavors you’ve not tried before. Then please post a detailed report that includes a link to or paraphrase of the recipe, with critiques/ comments about the recipe – plus a picture if you’ve got one that you want to share.

And, everyone, please respect the copyright of the recipe’s author by either: (a) including a link directly to the source of the recipe, or (b) if no link is available, use your own words to paraphrase and explain the instructions for making the dish (although you may directly quote any list and quantities of ingredients).
