Ice Cream Festival at Penns Landing this weekend - Philly

Steve | Jul 4, 2003 10:41 PM

I'm just back from the first day of the Ice Cream Festival at Festival Pier this weekend. It continues Saturday and Sunday.

If you need something to do with your kids or even without them... GO! But I wanted to provide some additional info.

1. GO EARLY! It starts at noon (and goes till 5pm) but it's much less crowded at noon and you can find a parking meter on street too! You will probably only stay an hour or 90 min. The "official lot" is $10.00 and none of that goes to the charity.

IMPORTANT.... it is INDOORS! (well in a cooled tent - large!) so don't worry about the heat!

It's a $5.00 donation to the Joshua Kahan Pediatric Leukemia Research Fund. But that's only if you are over age 10. Under 10 is $3.00

For this you can eat all the ice cream - served in small cups or as popsicles from Ben & Jerrys, Hagaan-Daas, Breyers, Edy's, Shop Rite, Friendly's, Chipwich and at least 4 water ice companies.

They have performers for kids and face painting outside but it may be too hot.

My favorite was Starbuck's Java Chip! They also sell water ($1.00) and Soft Pretzels (2 for $1.00), again for charity.

I don't know how much ice cream they serve each day but it's a fun thing - except for your arteries - and a bargain as well as benefiting a great cause (everything is donated). Everyone was friendly and happy.

So you are getting notice that there are 2 more days left.
