At summerthon (i'll pip in eventually), we were lucky to encounter the famous Great Seas chicken wings. Great! Great for three reasons: 1) expertly fried 2) sauced exquisitedly with sweet and spice 3) lovingly "pushed" so that each wing was oh so easy to eat. These wings have been highly touted on this board, and they were equal to the praise.
It made me think that most everything I've tried that has been highly praised or "famous" has been worth the hype. The thing that immediately came to mind after eating these wings was Cincinati chili. I expected it to be interesting, but I never expected it to be that god damn good. Arthur Bryants, ditto.
Am I just a sucker for a good back-drop, or is hype worth it. Where else has hype paid off, and where have you been horribly fooled.
