Huong's in Portland -- What happened?

Bummed | Sep 19, 2003 01:01 PM

Went to Huong's today, first time since they re-opened after a brief closing. Noticed right away that I didn't recognize the employees. Next noticed that tea and water were served in styrofoam cups, which was unusual. Then the soups came, the Pork and Shrimp with round noodles which I love, and another, two kinds of noodles with pork. (They had no beef soups at all, which was weird) The broth was watery with no hint of aromatics at all, the shrimp had no flavor, the pork was a couple of slices of bland, dry pork, not the usual flavorful chunks of roasted pork. We didn't even receive the usual greens, basil, sprouts, lime accompaniament, although that was probably an oversight. Both dishes were lousy (reminded me of my one visit to Saigon Thinh (sp?)) and I just knew this was no longer the same place.

So I asked and there is in fact a new owner. Does anyone know anything about this change of ownership? I'm just curious and really hope that the soups will improve as they receive feedback (maybe the rice dishes were okay?). I feel bad because the two ladies working there kept asking how everything was and were trying really hard. In the meantime, I'll be at the LH Karaoke Lounge for vietnamese, seems like they opened just in time.
