For Howard2: Is this your peeler/utensil?

Does your peeler-looking thing look like this?

There are other similar ones if you look at the main page:

I would never have dug up that site if I hadn't looked at the labels on one in the store today and googled using the brand name. Unfortunately, the man at that store speaks only very basic English (and none of my dozen or so words of Chinese were relevant), so I couldn't get a detailed explanation in terms of what sorts of things it would generally be used on. He seemed to think I was pretty dense asking what the thing labelled "peeler" was for and I looking at it from his perspective, I can't really blame him.LOL Finally, he just pointed to the American-style peelers and said "it's the same as those" with an expression that made clear that 20 questions time was over.

They can't be for the same exact purposes (mostly thinner skinned vegs) since they take off such thicker slices, but it has worked well for me on things that are really too tough to use a regular peeler.
