This is really bothering me. I have had, a half dozen times, maybe, in as many years, what I can only guess is an allergic food reaction. The symptoms are (the morning after, I think) firey hot, red and tender lips. They become very puffy over the next day or so (I look like that divorced socialite that had all the plastic surgery including multiple collagen injections), and gradually toughen and take about a week to feel normal. I have had to endure some fairly ribald remarks from my co-workers as a result and am rather tired of it.I was watching Curtis Aikens on FTV by chance one day, and he cautioned that mango, particularly the skin, could cause symptoms like mine. Bingo! I had made a mango, cilantro salsa to enjoy with my endangered, parasite-ridden swordfish in that timeframe, and have avoided mango since, among other things. But, darn it, it happened again fairly recently, and I am wondering why. I made a meal of grilled octopus (thanks to a stalwart and amusing Chowhound), fried plantains and grilled eggplant with garlic and yoghurt. What the heck was it? The plaintain skin has fairly astringent characteristics...or was it the deadly nightshade? I can live without all of these things (well, hold on, gotta have my octopus), but wonder if anybody else has had experiences that might enlighten me.Thanks,Deb
