Three weeks ago I was up in Ukiah for a site visit. Arriving a little early, I figured I'd check out the morning donut action to celebrate Hanukkah with fried foods. Good thing because I stumbled on a gem, Honey Fluff Donuts. Super sweet gal behind the counter, clean shop, and a nice display of many traditional types.
A box of donut holes on the counter caught my eye. These raised-glazed nuggets were cream custard-filled and I learned that the jams and others fillings are made in house. They're $2.50 per dozen and really good. So light and airy, very thin glaze so they're not too sweet, and fresh-tasting creamy filling. Italy's Jews would call these frittelle alla panna.
In the interest of science, I also purchased a glazed French cruller and a chocolate old fashioned to try. The cruller was not bad. The old fashioned was drowned in too much icing. The raised doughnuts are the way to go here.
Honey Fluff also offers teriyaki and rice bowls, as well as serving breakfast. Anyone else tried it?
