Made homemade ice cream yesterday for the first time and followed the recipe in the book and added huckleberry flavoring at the end as instructed. We did not use any lowfat ingredients. We used whole milk, cream, and half and half as directed in the correct proportions. The result was ice cream, but not what we were expecting. The texture was really grainy and mealy sort of. The ice cream maker is one which requires no salt or ice or additives. The container was frozen for a good 24 hours ahead of time.
What did we do wrong? Not let it mix enough(went about 35 to 40 minutes)? Or is this as good as I can expect from a store bought ice cream maker?
