Hello from Minnesota.

Here it is. The most fun kind of chowhound request:

In town (Annandale) for a week+ late August. Looking for your favorite simple, cheapish, lesser-known joints. Preference is for non-Asian (we have plenty of that here, although I suppose I'll show up at China Star at some point). Actually, I'm kind of burned out on ethnic foods, but go ahead anyway (South American chicken...stuff like that is OK) BBQ joints (good tips in recent posts), roadside grub, places operating out of buildings made from old pallets...whatever.

Also, I'll be driving in or out through western MD, W. Virginia and may head out towards Front Royal & the mountains for a day. Any hidden places out there you know of, tag 'em on to your post. I'll go out of my way. "Have dive w/chow, will travel."

I'll sacrifice a LITTLE bit of food quality for "character" (example: the Quarterdeck in Arlington is a place I like -- fun, laid back, and fairly decent AYCE crabs). And if anyone remembers Chicken in the Rough in Warrenton...that's what I'm talking about.

Thanks in advance, and I PROMISE a follow-up report when I get back in September.
